Panini (plural in Italian word) or Panino (singular) is a sandwich made from a small loaf of bread, typically a ciabatta. The loaf is often cut horizontally and filled with Chicken, Beef, Pastrami, Cheese or vegetables and served hot. A grilled panino is buttered and grilled in a press.
The word ‘Panino’ [pa’ni:no] is Italian word - literally meaning small bread roll, with plural Panini. ‘Panini’ is often used in a singular sense by speakers of English and French , and pluralised into ‘Paninis’.
During the 1980’s, the term Paninaro [slang term to indicate maker & seller of Panini or its shop] became more popular.
Panini House is a place where Paninaro makes & sells a wide range variety of Panini accompanied by hot or cold coffee.
